Mysuru, Aug 12: Prabhu Chauhan, minister for animal husbandry, informed that 6,000 cows are rescued throughout the state during Bakrid.
Speaking to media after visiting Suttooru Shakha Math in the city, Chauhan said, “Ban on cow slaughter is being implemented strictly. Instruction was given to all district SPs to prevent cow slaughter during Bakrid. We have also deputed veterinary doctors along with police at check posts. Because of this step, thousands of cows are rescued. Our main aim is that ‘Gomatha’ should not end up in a slaughterhouse.
“Animal welfare helpline is introduced for the first time in the whole country. This helpline has received 10,000 calls in one month. We have resolved 85% of the issues,” he said.
