Karwar, Aug 6: A boy and a girl belonging to different castes fell in love with each other and have since got married. The girl’s parents are hell bent against this alliance. The newly married couple has approached the district superintendent police seeking protection.
Neelakanta Naik from Hegdekatta village in Sirsi taluk and Vasudha Hegde of the same village loved each other. But the family of the girl was dead against this match.
As both the boy and the girl are majors, with mutual consent, they got married in the sub-registrar's office at Ankola in Uttara Kannada district. The husband-wife duo has deserted their homes and are staying in Ankola from a week. In the meanwhile, the parents of the girl have filed complaint of kidnap in Sirsi police station against the youth. The couple says that they have also posed threats to the boy through social websites.
Both Neelakanta and Vasudha are deeply in love with one another. The parents of Vasudha have only one grouse against the boy that he belongs to a caste that is different than their own. They tried to separate the lovers, but the lovers were far too deep in love with one another. The girl ditched her house and married the youth in the presence of his family members. The couple shared their joy at getting married by uploading the fact that they have married each other on Facebook. The relatives of the girl, who got angry, have posted comments threatening the duo to attack them if they return to their village.
The couple says they are getting threatening comments on the websites and intimidating calls from the police station. They have approached the district superintendent of police seeking protection. The youth says that the girl is totally in love with her and the marriage was performed as per her insistence. The couple says that various tactics are followed with the lone aim of separating them. They have been seeking justice.
The police have to extend protection to the lovers who have got married. It is regrettable that the people continue to harass lovers just because they belong to different castes.
