Dharwad, Aug 4: It may be recalled that Siddaramaiah had announced his decision to fight the next assembly election from Badami constituency from where he was elected with a thin margin and had lost the election in Chamundeshwari constituency. Now, it transpires that several of his own party men are opposed to this decision.
Badami gave Siddaramaiah a fresh lease of life in politics by choosing him in 2018. There are doubts whether he will be able to get fielded again from Badami in 2023. He may perhaps have to look for an alternative constituency, going by the recent developments. It is now learnt that B B Chimmanakatti, who had sacrificed the seat in favour of Siddaramaiah in 2018, is not in a mood to let go of the constituency again. He expressed his opposition to Siddaramaiah’s candidature at the divisional level Congress leaders meet organized at Hubballi recently.
"We sacrificed the seat as a sitting chief minister was being fielded by the party. If he wants to fight from here again, where should I go", questioned Chimmanakatti, duly reminding the leaders that he had been elected from Badami in 1978, 1983, 1994, 1999 and 2013 and had also been made a minister, duly wondering where else he should go now.
At the same time, fans of Siddaramaiah have asked the former chief minister to fight from either Chamarajpet, Chamundeshwari or Badami constituency. Now he is in a fix and dilemma about which constituency to pick because of opposition to his candidature and uncertain chances of victory.
