Dharwad: Own partymen oppose Siddaramaiah's candidature from Badami constituency

Daijiworld Media Network - Dharwad (SP)

Dharwad, Aug 4: It may be recalled that Siddaramaiah had announced his decision to fight the next assembly election from Badami constituency from where he was elected with a thin margin and had lost the election in Chamundeshwari constituency. Now, it transpires that several of his own party men are opposed to this decision.

Badami gave Siddaramaiah a fresh lease of life in politics by choosing him in 2018. There are doubts whether he will be able to get fielded again from Badami in 2023. He may perhaps have to look for an alternative constituency, going by the recent developments. It is now learnt that B B Chimmanakatti, who had sacrificed the seat in favour of Siddaramaiah in 2018, is not in a mood to let go of the constituency again. He expressed his opposition to Siddaramaiah’s candidature at the divisional level Congress leaders meet organized at Hubballi recently.

"We sacrificed the seat as a sitting chief minister was being fielded by the party. If he wants to fight from here again, where should I go", questioned Chimmanakatti, duly reminding the leaders that he had been elected from Badami in 1978, 1983, 1994, 1999 and 2013 and had also been made a minister, duly wondering where else he should go now.

At the same time, fans of Siddaramaiah have asked the former chief minister to fight from either Chamarajpet, Chamundeshwari or Badami constituency. Now he is in a fix and dilemma about which constituency to pick because of opposition to his candidature and uncertain chances of victory.

I am with B B Chimmanakatti on this. Very good show by the Badami people. Its been a norm or a fashion in Congress. Throughout the years, do not do any work, Sit tight, Tweet , and call for press conferences, bash Modi or BJP. At the end, look to contest from a safe constituency where performance is not the criteria but win on Muslim votes. Its high time this xhit stops. We do not want such leaders in the party who cannot win in their own backyard . How do you expect such people to perform once elected. It will be the same story after being elected as well , as they know in the back of their mind , that they have a safe constituency to bank on.

Ethnic Orchid, Very good analysis and apt. None of these constituencies should encourage outsiders contesting. It should be only after performance. The onus is on the voters. They should make it very clear. Ask themselves. Why should I vote for an outsider who just wants to survive in politics? Its due to such leaders that Congress is in a pathetic situation today. I would also suggest Mr. Khader to contest from a different constituency and not Ullal this time to demonstrate. Its already a matter of joke.

A.M Belma, if kader knew he can win elections from any other seat, he would have contested against Nalin from Mangalore constituency and not ask a new comer mithun to contest elections, same can be said of JR Lobo and Ramnath Rai, the congress leaders did no have the confidence to stand against a non performing MP Nalin and they made mithun a scapegoat.

Power hungry senior leaders should step aside and make way for younger generation to take active part in the politics. These people choose a constituency for elections and are seen only for election campaigning. Once they win, they hardly turn around and even look at that constituency. It is better for a local person who works at grass root level to get an opportunity.

Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely - An old quote - MR SIDDARAMAIAH suffers from this disease- He cannot win in his own home constituency - cannot get along and carry together majority of MLA's - rode his luck after leaving JDS and Congress wanted a Strong man - Honest man to lead in KARNATAKA - but not bargained for all other shortcomings- eccentricities - Head strong etc -etc ---- ---------------------------------- Last elections Congress fell short because MR SIDDU was in charge of MLA seat distribution - HAD A BIG FALSE IMAGE AS A BACKWARD CLASS LEADER - WAS OUT AND OUT ON THE AHINDA MOVEMENT - denying many a chance - and BJP doing well - although they managed only 100 ++ --

This is on expected lines for arrogant Siddu. One time he says this is last contest and he will not contest, but then next says will contest - He's becoming the proverbial Laundry man's pet, neither in Chamundeshwari nor in Badami.

Good development in congress. As long as supporters and reasonably good leaders within congress do not oppose corrupt leaders like Siddu, DKS brothers, KJ George etc Karnataka will never elect congress again.... People must form G23 like group so that only good leaders will come to power. DK district has also witnessed sidelining of able leaders like Sorake, Abhayachandra and Poojary due to politics of Moily, Ramanath Rai etc.

I too oppose it the same way. If a sitting CM can not win his own seat, that shows he in incompetent for the post of CM and no less to MLA! My suggestion is he should find an assembly constituency in Wynad !!!
