Udupi, Sep 19: Tebma Shipyard located in Malpe, near here, is preparing to launch their new sea vessel – MPSV Trico Service. It has made a good start by towing the newly-built vessel, with a dead weight of 2,800 tonnes, in a record 8 hours from its new shed.
It had taken many months in the past to move new vessels, but improved facilities and expert handlers have made this faster. It is the first time that this new technology of moving vessel within the ship
building facility, has been used at the Tebma Shipyard.
The vessel was moved to the launching pad using wire ropes, and this took just two-and-a-half hours. Meanwhile, the vessel will be moved to the cradles slipway this month itself.
Tebma Shipyard faced financial difficulties in 2009, and hopes to improve its finances in 2011. The new orders from shipping companies, co-operation of contractors, and local residents will make a positive impact on its financial condition.
The building of Indian Navy’s tugs with dead weight of 6x10 tonnes is underway at the shipping yard here. Once its delivery takes place, the shipyard will work on building more tugs for the Indian Navy with
dead weight of 2 x 25 tonne. The Tebma Shipyard will also build a survey ship for American shipping company Fugro in January 2011.
