Udupi, Aug 2: The mortal remains of a young woman who drowned due to high waves at Malpe beach on Sunday August 1, were retrieved on Monday August 2.
The victim is identified as Dechamma.
It is said that Dechamma’s body was found near the sea walk. Reportedly, three girls and a boy of Kodagu origin had come to Malpe beach on Sunday morning and were playing in the water. Though life guards warned them not to go into the water, they did not heed to their advice. Three people who were drowning, were rescued by the locals. But, Dechamma had gone missing.
The body was shifted to a mortuary in Manipal. Zilla Nagarika Samithi convener Nithyananda Olakadu provided the ambulance service.
Sub-inspector Sakitivelu was present. Malpe police have registered a case.
