Aug 1: Dakshina Kannada records 410 new cases, Udupi 162; seven deaths in twin districts

Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 1: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday August 1 reported 410 new coronavirus cases and six deaths, while Udupi registered 162 new cases and one death. Dakshina Kannada's single-day tally was the highest among all districts in the state for the day.

As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 12,71,013 samples have been tested so far, out of which 11,70,233 have turned out to be negative.

The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 1,00,780, out of which 2,943 are currently active.

As many as 264 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 96,407.

The district recorded 6 deaths due to coronavirus on Sunday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 1,430, out of which two are non-Covid deaths.

The district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.

So far, the district administration has collected Rs 1,00,42,417 as fine in 82,634 incidents of mask violation.


Udupi

As per the district health bulletin, as many as 7,85,780 samples have been tested so far.

As many as 162 new cases were reported on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 69,938, out of which 1,200 are currently active.

A total of 66 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 68,321.

Out of 162 new patients, 147 are in home isolation while 15 are in Covid-designated hospitals.

Among the 162, as many as 123 are symptomatic and 39 asymptomatic.

While Udupi taluk reported 86 of the 162 cases, Kundapur recorded 41, Karkala 33, and two from outside the district.

Coronavirus has claimed 417 lives in the district so far, including one on Sunday. The person who died on Sunday was a 56-year-old man from Udupi.

So far, 5,07,717 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 1,80,332 have received the second dose.

A total of 47 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the distrinct so far, out of which, 7 are currently active.
