Panaji: Opposition urges government to improve infrastructure

Panaji, Jul 29: Digambar Kamat, leader of opposition in the assembly said that many students are facing hardship in participating in online classes due to poor internet connectivity in the state.

On Wednesday, July 28, The ruling BJP government was taken to task by the opposition Congress on matters of poor infrastructure in the state including roads and internet connectivity. It also highlighted the plight of the people who have lost property, livestock and houses in the recent floods and asked the government to take immediate corrective action and provide them relief.

Kamat said that the students in rural as well as urban areas are risking their lives sitting in forests or roadsides to get better internet connectivity to attend online classes. The opposition Congress MLAs complained that due to the inferior quality of work done by PWD and NHAI the fields that are by the side of NH and main roads got flooded. They also highlighted that the NDRF was too slow in responding to the emergency faced by the affected people.

The issues of garbage dumped in gutters, poor construction of roads and damages to water pipelines was raised by Congress MLAs Vinod Paliencar, Prasad Gaonkar, Vijai Sardesai, Ramkrishna Dhavalikar and Rohan Kaunte.

Sardesai, MLA said that during the difficult time of Covid the government should not deprive the public of basic amenities citing infrastructure development.
