Mangaluru, Jul 28: Four persons have made good their escape with areca nuts worth about two crore rupees. The stock of areca nuts had been sent by two trucks to Rajkot in Gujarat. Lorry driver, driver Bhavesh K Shah, Ashish Yadav, and Vijay Joshi, owner of Joshi Transport, Nasik, Maharashtra, have been named as the accused.
South India Transport has been acquiring areca nut and other forest produce from Bhatkal and other places. The goods are then sent to other states. On July 19, a lorry had been fixed through Jayalaxmi Transport Booking Office, Boloor here. As many as 291 bags of areca nut had been loaded in the truck and sent to South India Transport branch office at Rajkot, Gujarat.

On July 20, 301 bags containing areca nut had been loaded and dispatched by another truck. Both the trucks were expected to reach the Gujarat branch on July 24. Instead of delivering the goods, the trucks and their drivers have absconded. Their mobile phones have been found to have been switched off.
Complaint has been filed at Bunder police station against the drivers and transport office owner in this regard.
