Mangaluru, Jul 23: On Thursday, sporadic rainfall was reported from various parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Mangaluru, Udupi and other places in the twin-districts received some rain with yawning gaps and sunny weather in between. However, several regions reported strong wind.
The meteorological department has declared red alert till Friday morning and orange alert till 8.30 am on July 24. From July 24 to 27, yellow alert has been announced. During this period, there is possibility of the region getting good rainfall coupled with strong wind. At the same time, the sea is expected to remain tumultuous.
Kodagu district received heavy rain along with strong wind, which inflicted damages at various places. On the highway stretch between Kushalnagar and Sampaje, landslide was reported from different places. Deputy commissioner Charulata Somal, and district superintendent of police, Kshama Mishra, visited areas where the damages were reported.
As water level is rising on account of good rainfall in Madikeri taluk, the district administration has advised people living in areas with the perception of danger to shift to safer places.
