Karwar, Jul 22: Even though the law banning the slaughter of cows in the state has been promulgated, cows continue to be killed. Illegal cattle trafficking continues to take place clandestinely. Roshan Sethia from the town has written to the President of India, Prime Minister and Supreme Court judges, seeking their support to protect the bovine breed, and declared cow as the national animal.
"We respect cows with divine feelings. Cows are a part of our culture and have emotional bonding with us. But illegal cow trafficking and slaughter continues to take place in different parts of the country. Those who revere the cattle have been urging to protect cows, he said in the letter. Sethia has been writing on this issue to the Prime Minister and President for the last five to six years. Now he has written letter in his own blood as he is peeved by the fact that cow slaughter continues to happen.
Sethia has been active in the movement to protect cows since long. When he comes to know that a cow is injured anywhere in Karwar, he rushes with his Gau Samithi members and rescues the cattle. He is angry at the fat that cow slaughters have continued even after the same was banned as per law. Therefore in his letter written in blood, he has urged the Prime Minister, President and Supreme Court judges to take action to protect cows. He also has written in blood to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath. He wants cow to be declared as national animal, increase police beat at night, and check all the vehicles. He also wants sterner rules to be implemented relating to cow slaughter.
