Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 22: In a scary incident that occurred at Adyar, on the outskirts of the city, the driver of a bus that was carrying full capacity passengers, fell on the steering wheel as he got suffered low blood pressure (BP). Fortunately, no damage was done as the driver managed to stop the bus right in front of a college’s gate.

Safe Way Travels is the private bus which operates between Puttur to State Bank in Mangaluru. As it was reaching Adyar, the driver, Santhosh, of the bus felt hazy and drowsy and stopped the bus immediately in front of the gate of Sahyadri College beside the highway.

The bus was filled with passengers with people standing on footboard. As the driver fell down after stopping the bus, the passengers of the bus screamed out of fear. However, Santhosh showed great presence of mind even though he was in distress and applied breaks immediately and also pressed the stop button. Even a second of delay would have caused a major disaster.

Driver Santhosh is working in the same bus since a year. The bus was also running on quite high speed. Because of Santhosh’s presence of mind, a tragedy was averted says Shekhar, conductor of the bus.

I remember a incident nearly two and a half years back. I boarded KSRTC from Mangalore to Pune .At Ankola bus stopped for dinner and another KSRTC also there to Bangalore. Drivers of both busses sat together for dinner and one of the diver got epilepsy attack. He could have fallen but the driver sitting opposite saved him from falling. He must be knowing his history.Just imagine if this was to happen while driving that bus .I shudder to think how many lives would have lost. After reaching home first thing was to report this incident to the authorities.Dont know any action took place or no!

Suggestion: Can there be a fitness test every year (duly validated by RTO) for people who are driving driving vehicles, including private vehicles. If a person is found to be suffering from any kind of sickness (Diabetes or Low BP), there should be methodology for treatment, so that they don't loose their jobs.

Now please don't fire him, make sure he gets the proper treatment and once he's cured he can get back to work. He is still working hard despite having certain health problems, he's a good man. Hope the owner of the bus looks after his treatment and helps him get back to his normal life

very sad to note..he should refrain from driving altogether and should never drive alone, in case he drivers..Better not to drive passenger buses as any mishap would be a big disaster.. Hope he recovers soon.

@Kujuma Be sensitive while commenting. Will you feed his family if he is fired. Despite suffering, he managed to control the vehicle. He should be treated and allowed to work. I'm ready to hire him in my firm if required. Have heard of cases where people who looked fit collapsing behind the wheel and dying in crash.

Kujuma Kodial ,I really appriciate this man for stopping the bus immediately when he felt sick.First of all you are not interested why and what was the cause. No,immediately hard with him.I really appriciate these drivers in mangalore ,who sit whole time on steering ,with hot or cold rain ,with so much pressure, stop ,go stop .It is very stress job on these roads.I am sure it was lack of fluids ,he had during the day.Or lack of sugar level in his blood. One should drink more .whole day sitting too is not good.Have to move now and then so that blood pressure stabilize.Take some food well balanced .All is good wish him good health.Let him check his health on empty stomach ,to see if low sugar problem is there.

Laanath hai tuj jaise nikamma insaan par..Who does not understand what is written..
