Mangaluru, Jul 19: The locals of Manjalpaade, which falls under Moodushedde gram panchayat limits, are agitated over heaps of garbage disposed beside the roads near here.

Since several days, heaps of garbage is being dumped on the stretch of an inner road at Manjalpaade which connects to the main road. The area is surrounded by forest. Rain water flows on the particular road and joins Manjalpaade river and also connects the Maravoor dam.

The locals are upset to witness heaps of garbage emanating foul smell. Plastic waste, bottles, hair, cloth remains and coconut shells are found in the garbage. During heavy rain, the garbage flows in the water for a distance.

Speaking to daijiworld.com, a local, Veerappa, alleged that the panchayat and public dump garbage on this road. “The water flows to Manjalpaade river and then to Maravoor dam. The garbage flows along with the water for a distance and the same water is used for drinking from the Maravoor dam by 12 villages. We have brought this to the notice of panchayat PDO and president and they have assured to clear this garbage within two days.”

Moodushedde gram panchayat president Jayashree said, “It has been brought to our notice about the dumping of garbage at Manjalpaade. We will take measures to clear it immediately on priority basis in the next two days. We are trying to identify land under Moodushedde panchayat limits for waste disposal.”
