Mangaluru: Woman stuck in DC office lift rescued by fire brigade

Mangaluru, Jul 19: A woman got trapped inside the lift at the office of the deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada district on Monday July 19 morning. She was rescued by the fire personnel.

It is learnt that the lady who was stuck in the lift was Vani (43), an employee of the DC's office.

When the lady was using the lift at about 8 am it suddenly malfunctioned and failed to respond. Later, the information was conveyed to fire brigade at Pandeshwar.

The fire personnel reached the spot and opened the lift door by using spreader.

After an operation lasting 30 minutes, the woman was successfully brought out, officials stated.

    Poor lady.Mostly lift functions well,but sometimes that too has its problems whatever the cause is.Afterall it is a maschine.Thank God she was rescued.many lifts unfortunately doesnt stay but go strait down and smash down.we can imagine the effect.I too was once caught up in lift ,for half an hour and that time 7months pregnent.Can imagine my situation.Thank God was released without problems.

    Facility Management ..There is no safety precaution ..Fire safety etc The lift should have been fixed by the lift maintenance company ..Why bring in fire brigade ..? What is the root cause ? how can it be avoided ..what is required to be done on routine basis?

    That means, DC office is not maintaining the equipment. Worst case scenarios(What ever the cause or power failure), lift auto landing system has to function and lift car should land at the next nearest floor and door shall be wide open. Where Electrical inspectors? Do they check the backup battery life during inspection. Yes auto landing cost more due to backup battery. so ans so.

    If a person who is employed in the DC office and gets stuck in the lift in her own work premises, then can imagine the plight of general public in the district with all these smart city works going on since so many years. Are these signs of ache din?
