Beltangady, Jul 19: In a shocking incident reported from Mudipire in Machina village in the taluk, a man ended his life hanging himself from the rod of the shamiyana erected at the funeral site of his wife.
Chandravathi (49), wife of Shivappa Gowda (56), had ended her life on Saturday. Shivappa ended his life in the early hours of Sunday July 18.
Chandravathi had left home on Saturday afternoon to collect fodder for the cattle. She did not return till evening. A search revealed that she had hanged herself from a cashew tree. It is said that she was overwhelmed by the worry about the liquor addiction of her husband, incurable disease from which she was suffering from, and also because she could not conceive.

On Saturday, Chandravathi's funeral was held. As there was heavy rainfall at the place, a shamiyana had been pitched at the spot of the cremation. On Sunday morning, it was found that Shivappa Gowda had hanged himself from the shamiyana rod.
The couple lived at Mudipire with Shivappa's mother Nagamma. Now, with the death of her son and daughter-in-law, Nagamma has become a loner. A report about the incident was filed at Punjalkatte police station.
