Udupi, Jul 18: The district is witnessing heavy rains since the night of Saturday, July 17. Many parts of the city have been inundated due to artificial floods.

Water entered the houses at Kaup, Majoor, Matadabettu and Kalsanka areas. Warning has been issued to people living on the banks of river to move to safer places by the district administration. All the rivers are flowing to the brim.

Normal life has been thrown out of gear. According to the metereology department, the district is likely to receive heavy rains on Sunday and Monday as well.

There is possibility of low lying areas getting submerged in water because of the continuous rains. In Kaup, a sick woman who was inside a house that was inundated was shifted to safer place by youths who carried her on a chair. The woman was not able to walk as she had bandage on her legs.

Parking of Krishna Math, Bailakere and Nittor areas are flooded. Local rescue operations are on. Police personnel have installed barricades at several places and are warning people to be watchful.

At many places in the city manholes are overflowing and sewage from drain is overflowing on the roads.

What are artificial floods? It's either floods or no floods. With so much rain, no city's drainage in the world can withstand it.
