Brahmavar, Jul 17: HFCL Limited, in collaboration with the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) and i2e1, will set up PM-WANI-powered (Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) connectivity at Baidebettu village in Brahmavar taluk of Udupi district.
PM-WANI network will provide high-speed Wi-Fi internet to over 9,000 residents of the village.
The network will offer Wi-Fi internet with bandwidth of up to 500 Mbps in all common areas of the village that is spread across a radius of six km. Due to its remote location under high rainfall zone and absence of internet infrastructure, Baidebettu presently does not have any reliable connectivity.

The Wi-Fi network authentication and regulatory monitoring will be powered by i2e1 core solutions which will also act as the public data office aggregator (PDOA) under the PM-WANI model. The network is expected to go live by 31 July 2021.
After great success of its first model PM-WANI village in north India, the company is now replicating the model in a remote village in South India.
HFCL’s first PM-WANI model was set up three months ago in the small remote village of Baslambi in Haryana.
Devadas Pai Baidabettu, managing director, NanoCell Networks Private Limited, belongs to Kokkarne panchayat. He lend a helping hand in getting this connectivity for the village. He approached one of the top most officials of HFCL, who has a close relationship with Pai.
Speaking to daijiworld.com, Devadas Pai said, “Baidebettu is a very remote area and there is no proper IT infrastructure. Hence, people are striving hard to access internet. People working from home and students undergoing online classes are facing problems due to lack of internet connectivity. Further, the situation also impacts daily activities like banking and healthcare. Hence, I did not want to miss this offer. I sent a mail to HFCL and received a positive response. Now the project is in progress. People of my hometown will get free Wi-Fi connectivity soon. I will be grateful to the company forever.”
Madhav Pai, a resident of Kokkarne and a former president of Kokkarne village panchayat and brother of Devadas Pai said, “My brother spoke to me about this project just three months ago. The project officials came here a day earlier to examine the panchayat area.
“There are 10 schools which fall under Kokkarne village panchayat, out of them two are high schools and eight are primary schools.
“The concerned company’s two engineers have identified nine points to install Wi-Fi network set up. They are higher primary school Sasthavu, Mogaveera Pete, Sural school, Nukkur School, Kokkarne KPSC primary and High school, Baidabettu near Ram Mandir.
“I noticed that after the lockdown, children did not have classes. They had to completely rely on online education. Children were facing problems in Kokkarne as it is a remote area. Hence I thought that this is the right opportunity to utilise the offer and thousands of children could reap benefits through this project. I am very happy for this project and children would be really grateful to HFCL,” said.
