Bengaluru, Jul 16: Because of the fear of the corona third wave hitting the children the most, the government proposes to hold online classes for the children. But, because of internet problem in rural areas, the education department has planned to extend its Vidyagama scheme to this academic year too.
As the survey of the department has found that 30 percent of the children do not have mobile phones, television sets or laptops, the department plans to start Vidyagama 2.0 after the SSLC examination. Commissioner in the department of public instruction, Anbukumar, points out that Vidyagama was successful last year. Last year, the scheme had been cut short in the middle as some teachers and children were infected with coronavirus.

Education department sources reveal that this time too, the Vidyagama sessions will be held in temples, under the trees, school compounds or open grounds in shifts like last year. The department plans to start Vidyagama once PU classes begin, followed by six to tenth standard students. Registered Unaided Private Schools Managements Association (RUPSA) president, Lokesh Talikatte too has demanded to open schools, or at least begin Vidyagama as soon as possible.
The department plans to conduct Vidyagama till the taskforce committee is formed to consider the issue of opening of schools and it submits its report.
