Bengaluru: Government decides against holding zilla, taluk panchayat elections this year

Bengaluru, Jul 16: The state government has decided against holding the zilla panchayat (ZP) and taluk panchayat (TP) elections that are due this year till the end of this year. This decision was taken at the state cabinet meeting held on Thursday July 15.

At the same time, the government is planning to hold elections to the posts of the presidents and vice presidents of cooperative societies. The ministry gave its nod for this proposal as the number of people who gather for these elections happens to be considerably less.

The meeting also approved the plan to go ahead with the implementation of the decision to set up government cow shelters in each of the districts in tune with the provisions of the controversial Prohibition of Cow Slaughter amendment act. The ministry gave its nod for the release of Rs 15 crore grant for the purpose. It also has concurred to the proposal to release more grants based on the need for this purpose.
