Karnataka Horror: Miscreants severe hand, leg of RTI activist in broad daylight

Ramnagar, (Karnataka) Jul 15 (IANS): In a horrific incident, a group of miscreants severed the leg and hand of an RTI activist in broad daylight on Thursday on the outskirts of Bengaluru and fled from the scene. The gruesome incident took place in front of the public.

The RTI activist has been identified as Venkatesh. The incident took place in Tavarekere near Bengaluru, which falls under the neighboring Ramnagar district.

Venkatesh, who was lying on the road bleeding profusely, was later shifted to a hospital where he is said to be undergoing intensive treatment.

The miscreants attacked him with lethal weapons and severed his hand and leg. Shockingly, the spot where the incident took place is just a stone's throw away from the local police station.

Venkatesh had been filing RTI applications seeking information on various departments of the state government.

Ramnagar SP Girish has formed three special teams to probe the matter. The police maintained that they are also looking into the angle of rivalry and personal enmity. Further investigation is underway.

In mangalore not too long ago, a RTI activist was killed. His family is still fighting for justice. Meanwhile his murder accused are out on bail and roaming around freely. Without political backing this murder would not have happened. The same must be for this poor RTI activist who is silenced with violence.

Agreed, now only innocents are harassed, guilty go scott free. Many times no genuine attempt is made to catch the accused, sometimes they are caught and a weak case is made, original documents are destroyed, the accused person comes out on bail. Also cases go on forever, and expenses are huge.

my sincere advise to commoners would be just shut your mouth and go through the motions and be a part of the corrupt administration of this country from bottom to top.. if at all you want to raise voice move it through some associations or political parties.. Do not fight alone.. When RTI was brought into implementation every top lokayukta said dont fear anyone..but in reality the law and order of our country is so corrupt that no one can survive. now this person has to suffer for life and his family too..so be smart when you live in third world countries ruled by fascist govts.

Horrible. And noone went to help the victim ?Noone resisted?I am sure lot of people were standing nearby,If everyone got together ,call police or give them a kick from back also helped. But noone dared thinking it doesnt matter to me?If someone had a knife in his pocket could do on them .Hope the victim survives without any problem.what was the reason ?cant understand, now culprits must be arrested and do the same proceedure on them too.No Pardon.

this is not germany but India..if anyone interferes he will also be assaulted..we have so many problems in life so no one wants to add anything more.. as I said in my earlier comment,,get used to living in corrupted environment when you know that you live in countries where you cannot question anything. It is not only India there are several countries. probably except some coutries in Europe, australia and new zealand nowhere in the world you can question authority..India is like china now after the bearded fellow assumed power
