Bantwal, Jul 15: On account of heavy downpour witnessed by the coastal districts for the last some days, the water level in Netravati River is rising. The taluk administration said that the water level on Thursday, July 15 was 7 metres. As even the Western Ghats are receiving heavy rainfall for the last two days, the water level in the river is continuously rising. The danger level is 8.5 metres as far as the Netravati river is concerned. Considering the torrential rains, it looks like the river will continue to swell.
If the water level goes on rising, areas in lower levels like Panemangalore, Jakribettu, Aladka, Kanchikara Pete and other areas will get submerged. However, as of now, there is no immediate risk for these areas.
Water is now being accumulated in both AMR and MRPL dams. If the level in these dams reach the maximum level and the companies decide to release excess water into the river, the water level in the river might rise.
The taluk administration is in readiness to handle any eventualities. As the danger level of the river is 8.5 metres, there is no risk for the present. If the water level breaches the danger mark, the taluk administration is ready with its action plan. All the arrangements have been kept ready, and home guards with boats are in readiness. Tahsildar Rashmi SR said that all the officers are in the taluk and they are prepared to handle any situation arising out of heavy rainfall.
