The video of verbal altercation on the issue of playing cricket in the temple premises of Korambadka Adimogerkala Daivasthana near Sullia Jayanagara had become viral. The temple management had decided to plant saplings in the land belonging to the temple. For this purpose, pits had been dug. This had created problems for the youngsters as they could not play cricket there.
When the temple officials said that people belonging to other religions cannot play inside the Daivasthana premises, some youngsters stressed that they were Hindus. Thereafter, a youth belonging to another religion had been sent away, and the youngsters had approached the police station.
Praveen Jayanagara, who objected the cricket being played in the Daivasthana ground, clarified that he had objected because a decision had been taken at a public meeting not to allow games inside the premises. He told the police that he was not driven by the intention of creating communal hatred. President of the managing committee, Vasanth Kutpaje, regretted about the communal remark made by a member of the committee and also the verbal altercation with the boys. He apologised on behalf of Praveen and assured that such incidents will not recur.
