Kasargod, Jul 14:  Newly appointed Kasargod district DC Bhandari Swagat on Wednesday, July 14 informed that she will hold a meeting with Dakshina Kannada DC Dr Rajendra in regard to resuming transportation of Mangaluru to Kasargod Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses.

Speaking to media persons in the DC office here, DC Bhandari said, "Several people from Kasargod district are plying to Mangaluru for employment and other essential works. As transportation between the two districts stopped amid the pandemic, the people of Kasargod were facing problems. This issue will be brought to the notice of Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner."

"The order cannot be withdrawn with immediate effect. Thus, we will discuss this matter and take appropriate measures. In the district, more importance should be given to containing the spread of the Covid-19. Tests will be increased up to 40,000 per day. As of now, the testing rate is less, it will be increased in the coming days. Under the limits of Kumbala gram panchayat, only four out of 100 people are tested when compared to its population. The situation is the same, even in other gram panchayats of the district," she said.

"A meeting will be conducted this month to discuss the problems of Endosulfan victims. Proper measures will be taken to control traffic in Kasargod city. A meeting will be held on July 21 to discuss the problems of stakeholders," the DC added.

Sir,bus service between Mangalore and Kasaragod must be restored since the natives have very close connections in every respect. But due to the present pandemic it is necessary to restrict the seating to only Single person in twin seats and two persons in 3 seaters and No standees . The ticket prices may be increased to restrict the revenue loss thereby. Otherwise the crowding within will further spread the virus. It is necessary till the pandemic is fully under control. But the travellers need to cooperate. It is not advisable to start buses as in Present conditions of travel will probably increase the spread of Virus among passengers.Further it is felt ,direct service between the 2 cities at least at 8am and 6pm in both directions is desirable since many travel daily for education, business etc.,between the 2 cities.2 or 3 pick up points will be Necessary from starting point.Advance booking for this facility will be ideal.
