Mangaluru, Jul 14: The Zika virus infection has been reported in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner, Dr Rajendra has asked the officials to precautionary measures to contain the spread of infection in the district.
In a press release, the DC has informed that several people from Kerala are coming to the district for education and medical purposes, thus, it is necessary to contain the spread of the Zika virus in the Dakshina Kannada district.
The following guidelines have been issued by the DC to concerned authorities:
Zika virus spreads from mosquitoes that bite during the day. The officials should ensure that there are no potential breeding grounds for mosquitos around houses, public places and materials where water gets stagnant that will help mosquitoes to breed.
The officials are to focus on the patients entering the district from Kerala. People should be advised to visit the nearest government hospital if they suffer from fever.
Officials are directed to purchase fogging machines under the limits of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to prevent mosquitoes from breeding in the sources where water gets stagnant.
If the pregnant woman is admitted to a scanning centre or any hospital and microcephaly are detected, the concerned authorities should conduct a blood test and inform the health department.
As the waste is being littered in public places, there is a possibility of mosquitoes breeding in this water. The officials are to take appropriate measures to avoid water stagnation in the construction sites and terraces of houses, apartments, government offices and public places.
