CM Yediyurappa unveils novel Electric Bike Taxi Scheme

Bengaluru, Jul 14: Chief minister, B S Yediyurappa unveiled the Karnataka Electric Bike Taxi Scheme-2021 in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

The Karnataka Electric Bike Taxi scheme-2021 will serve as a bridge between public transport and daily travellers and also boost the creation of self-employment, eco-friendly environment, fuel conservation, strengthening the public transport and encouragement to establish related industries, he said.

Yediyurappa said the main objective of this scheme is to reduce the travel time and inconvenience faced by the public’s travelling from their home to bus stands, railway and metro stations in the cities, especially in Bengaluru.

The state government has taken several measures to mitigate and keep on encouraging alternate fuel for the vehicles so as to keep the environment clean for future generations. In this process, the alternate fuel CNG has been successful in the state.

In continuation of this the central and state governments are encouraging battery-operated vehicles, he said.

He said this scheme will give an opportunity for an individual, partnership firms and companies to participate. The vehicles registered under this scheme will be in the transport category for which the government has given several exemptions like permits, tax and also giving financial benefits for the electric vehicles manufacturers.

The chief minister appealed to the vehicle manufacturers, Industrialists especially women entrepreneurs and the public to take advantage by investing in the Karnataka Electric Bike taxi Scheme.

Deputy chief minister and transport minister, Lakshman Savadi spoke about the key features of the scheme.

Chief secretary, Ravikumar, principal secretary, transport department, Anjum Parvez and other senior officers and other stakeholders were presented.

    To me, it looks to be an " Ideal Scheme " for a quick transport in rural area side; and should be also for crowded areas too. After trying for some time, we should be able to judge and see the viability with cost cutting, etc. In any case, it is worth the trial and error method, unless the officials have already done this exercise in their attempts, taking into consideration the all round advantages and benefits. Let us fervently hope that this type of transport is going to be our mainstay in the near future for rural tranport of personal nature !
