Bengaluru, Jul 14: The state government has decided to provide highly professional training to the police officers on the pattern of the National Defence Academy (NDA) training, home and law minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Wednesday.
Addressing the 35th probationary deputy superintendents of police and excise deputy superintendents and 43rd passing out parade of probationary deputy superintendents of police held in the Mysuru Police Academy premises, he said all must adapt themselves to meet the needs of administrative reforms to serve the people better.
The home minister said special as well as refresher training arrangements will be made for all serving policemen, especially officers, as the police officers must also be good administrators. It is, therefore, felt that all police officers must highly professional training on the pattern of NDA, he said.
With increasing incidents of cybercrimes and other economic offences, it is necessary that police investigation must make use of the tools of modern technology in their work. Modern technology must be used to ensure the protection of people, especially prevent atrocities against women and children, he said underscoring the need for a complete overhaul of the training process and teaching methods as well as course syllabus.
"I have discussed the issue with the director-general of police. An expert committee headed by the additional director general of police (Training) will be constituted with a mandate to furnish its report in three months,’’ he said promising to overhaul the training programmes.
The home minister asked the probationary officers to their best and serve society. It is necessary to work for justice and be sympathetic to those subjected to injustice and victims of crimes, he said.
He said the state government will fill up all the 13,000 vacant posts in the entire police force. As many as 14,000 police posts had been filled up during the last two years out of the 27,000 vacancies.
State director-general of police, Praveen Sood, Karnataka Police Academy director, Vipul Kumar, additional director general of police and in-charge of training, Harishekaran and other senior police officers attended the programme.
Earlier, the home minister called on the Suttur Math pontiff Sri Shivarathri Desikendra Swamy and sought his blessings in Mysuru. He was accompanied by revenue minister, R Ashok and MLA H Vishwanath.
