Bantwal, Jul 13: A youth died due to asphyxiation while having bath due to the gas geyser. This incident is reported from Maripalla of Farangipet in the taluk on the afternoon of Monday July 12.

Ijaz Ahmed (23), son of Ismail, is the youth who died in this incident. He was having a bath in the bathroom with the geyser on.

As Ijaz, who had gone for a bath did not return even after an hour, his father and brothers called him but he did not respond. Then they broke the bathroom door and saw that Ijaz had collapsed in the bathroom.

Though Ijaz was shifted to the hospital, he was declared brought dead. It is said that he died because of inhaling carbon monoxide that gets emanated while heating water in gas geyser.

The deceased used to work at a jewellery shop in Hubballi and had come to native place just a week ago to visit his ailing father.

Deceased Ijaz is survived by father, mother and three brothers.

It's really sad to know, May his soul rest in peace and comfort to the bereaved family. It should made mandatory to install the gas detector sensor with auto shutdown down valve in the kitchen as well as in the bathrooms where gas heaters are installed.

Carbon Monoxide is odorless and as it increases depriving the victims of oxygen they slip into unconsciousness without realising as steam inside while taking bath. Finally they go into coma and death is inevitable, victims hardly has time to unlock or call for help. I had removed it from my well ventilated big bathroom as I knew its dangers, especially if aged and special need people have to use them it's open invitation for disaster. I urge people to keep the door open and wait for 15 minutes before stepping inside the bathroom and get all the required quantity of hot water before taking bath. Exhaust fan is better if installed but if electricity fails it's dangerous. The manufacturers should change the exhaust system by installing a pipe to let out the fumes outside the bathroom like chimneys do in the kitchen which will end majority of inhalation deaths.

Gas geysers is the one of the most dangerous house hold equipment. It is advisable not to use it as many have lost their lives due to it.

A gas geyser is best fitted outside the bathroom if the size of the bathroom is small. Otherwise one has to make arrangements for ventilation or at least an exhaust fan should be installed. A young life is lost. May the almighty grant him eternal rest.

RIP. Safety Standards matter. Every human life is worth the same, and worth saving, and our Govt is taking for granted. If Gas Geyser can kill then why allow to be placed in the market for sale.

I had installed it earlier in my bathroom. However after learning the adverse effects if the burnt gas i removed it. Please note when the gas geyser is used in a bathroom with limited ventilation, we inhale the burnt gases including carbon monoxide. Even if people do not die but there are adverse effects if these gases are inhaled on long term.

Come across with number of death due to gas water heater installed inside bathroom. When the product is harmful as while gas being burnt, number of unhealthy gases are produced as by- product and when room is closed and no proper ventilation or exhaust line, the oxygen level inside room will be reduced(used by gas to burn) and no doubt person will die due to asphyxiation. Here the product promotor and installer shall be booked for installing the gas heater at non ventilated location and providing the hazards of the product
