Bengaluru, Jul 13: State home minister Basavaraj Bommai, held detailed discussions with the police chiefs of all the border districts including Belagavi, Bidar, Vijayapura, Kodagu, Mysuru, Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada, about the need to take strict measures because of the fear of the third wave of the pandemic hitting the state.
The second wave has receded to some extent and the people are now heaving a sigh of relief. But the fear of the corona third wave gripping the state has made the rulers jittery. Experts expect the third wave to hit Karnataka during the last week of August. The state government therefore has been taking measures to put certain stringent measures in place as a precaution.
The home minister held a video conference with all the district superintendents of police on Monday and asked them to conduct strict checking in the border districts. He also asked the SPs to confirm that people entering Karnataka through Maharashtra and Kerala possess negative RT-PCR reports. He also called upon the officials to make advance preparations in order to collect throat swabs of the people entering the state, who display symptoms of coronavirus infection. "Hold discussions with health department officials on this issue and seek their help. Keep close vigil at the border areas of the state to make sure that no infected people come into our state from states on the neighbourhood," he instructed. Noting that infection in the state went up last time because of Maharashtra and Kerala, he asked the officials to take precautions to see that similar situation does not recur, and bus passengers are checked randomly. He held discussions with the SPs of all the border area districts.
The home minister was accompanied by state director general of police, Praveen Sood, and law and order additional director general of police, Pratap Reddy.
