Bengaluru, Jul 12: "Poor people and backward classes in all the communities need to get the benefit of reservations. For achieving this, there is a need to increase the reservation quota," felt union minister of state for social justice and empowerment, Ramdas Athawale. .
He was speaking about the draft bill proposed by Uttar Pradesh state to regulate population. "The population of Muslims has risen all of a sudden. As Muslims practice polygamy they have more number of children. In order to regulate spiralling population, control measures are needed. Therefore, rules are being implemented to bring down the rate of increase of Muslims," he said.
Athawale, who mentioned about the maximum of 50 percent reservation quota prescribed by the Supreme Court explained that to see that exploited and downtrodden communities to get justice, there is no other way but to increase reservations. He said that this issue was discussed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
