Kundapur, Jul 12: A person, capitalizing on certain differences which arose between lovers, convinced the lady that he would be able to do her justice. In the name of bribing the news publications and police, he also fleeced her, the lady said in a complaint made in Shankaranarayana police station. On the basis of her complaint, the police arrested the accused and produced him in the court upon which he was released on bail.
The lady from Nencharu within the limits of Shankaranarayana police station is said to have been in love with Yogeesh Naik from Halady and Naik too was in love with her, it is learnt. Later, some differences arose between the two, after which the lady had complained to Shankaranarayana police station. The two sides met at the police station where it was decided that the two would part ways.
The lady, working as a nurse in a hospital in the town, came across Shekhar Balegar from Katbelthoor, who had visited the hospital where she works, in connection with the health problems of his wife. The lady came in contact with Balegar in the hospital, after which she explained the problems she was facing, it is said. Balegar succeeded in making her believe that he is close to certain officers and newspaper people. He convinced her to hand over to him a total sum of Rs 95,000 on three different occasions purportedly for paying to the police and the newspapers. He also demanded a further sum of one lac rupees, the complainant has claimed in her complaint. When she said she does not have that much money, he threatened her with publishing articles about her in the newspapers and blackmailed her with the threat of tarnishing her image, she stated.
The police arrested Shekhar Balegar on Saturday July 10 evening and produced him before the judge on Sunday. The judge granted bail to the accused. The case is being pursued by the Shankaranarayana police.
