Mangalore, Sep 9: MLA, N Yogish Bhat, has urged Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa, to intervene on the issue of providing employment to the members of those families, whose lands have been acquired for Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ), in Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd.
He has noted that at the time of MSEZ implementation, a government order had been issued, making it mandatory to offer employment opportunities to one member of each such families. “Eligible youth from these families are being imparted training in mechanical, chemical, electrical and electronics fields, to make them employable. A sum of about seven crore rupees has been spent for this purpose. MRPL has not even allowed the 225 boys and girls who are in the final semester of their respective courses, even to appear for a selection test. These youth have now been boycotting their classes since the last three weeks in protest against this discrimination. MRPL has failed to obey the government order,” Bhat has pointed out in the letter.
He said that at a meeting held by the district in-charge minister with the district deputy commissioner, people’s representatives and the chairman and senior officials of MRPL, a consensus had been arrived at, to provide employment opportunities in this company for the local youth. He has asked the CM to intervene in the issue, as MRPL is dithering in the matter of meeting its earlier commitment.
