Chitradurga, Jul 10: In an incident which happened during the late night hours of Thursday July 8 in Maruti extension, Molakalmuru in the district, a youth who fought with his mother for her refusal to make Sambar, murdered her in a fit of rage.

Ratnamma (45) and her son, Lokesh (20), lived in the town in a small house. Both worked as coolies. Lokesh was addicted to liquor, and differences on minor issues between the two often blew into major quarrels. On Thursday night, Lokesh got angry that his mother did not make Sambar for dinner. He slapped her hard in the temple twice before walking out of the house in an angry mood.

He later carried his mother who was lying in the courtyard, inside the house and then went to sleep. In the morning, he noticed that his mother had died. He approached his grandmother's house to tell her that her daughter was no more, before going to the bar. The police arrested him when he was having liquor in a bar.
