Udupi, Jul 8: Manipal police sub-inspector, Rajashekhar Vandali, was in the police station at 10.30 pm on July 6 when he was told by an informant that a cow was being illegally transported in a pick-up van near Rampur junction. The cow was stolen, as per the information. Unknown people reportedly stopped the vehicle and damaged it, the sub-inspector came to know. He then went to the spot with other staff and found a vehicle with a crossbreed cow in the backside bound by ropes. It was found that unidentified culprits had bound the cow in a violent manner without providing food and water for slaughtering and making beef. The vehicle and the cow were taken into custody for further action. The value of items confiscated has been estimated at Rs 1,10,000.

The police said that the case under the Indian Penal Code and Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act was registered.
In a related development, a case was filed by Sheikh Abdul saying that he had loaded a cow from the house of a person named Gunakar on July 6 night. When the vehicle driven by Imran was being taken towards Katapadi via Hiriadka, and reached Rampur Junction, accused Giriraj, Romeo, and Hari who followed the van in a car blocked their pick-up van. The accused reportedly forcibly dumped the complainant on the floor by his collar and hit his face with a fist. With a stone, the front glass of the Bolero vehicle and headlight were shattered. The complainant reportedly was dragged to the Etios car in which they came, and threatened to kill him, it is alleged.
The police have registered case under different sections of the Indian Penal Code.
