Mangaluru, Jul 6: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Dr K V Rajendra, who also happens to be the chairman of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) said that bus fare hike proposal in respect of private buses has been temporarily withheld for now. He said that this issue will be discussed in the next meeting of the RTA.
A meeting of bus owners was held at the office of the deputy commissioner on July 5 to discuss fare, which has already been hiked, in the light of the permission given to carry passengers to the full capacity.

The RTA meeting is likely to be held next week. The bus owners have been requested to run the buses at the rates prevailing before the lockdown till then, and they have agreed, the deputy commissioner said.
Between July 1 and 4, limited private buses had moved around with a hike of 20 percent fare with limited passengers. On Monday, the meeting was convened to discuss whether to continue with this fare or to bring it down. As the decision has to be taken at the RTA meeting, the deputy commissioner requested to wait till then, and Canara Bus Owners Association has agreed, said president of the association, Rajavarma Ballal.
