Bengaluru: Vaccinate 80% population by Sep to save state from third Covid wave, urges DKS

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Jul 4: KPCC president D K Shivakumar on Sunday July 4 urged the state BJP government to get 80% of the population of Karnataka vaccinated by September and save them from the possibility of a third Covid wave.

Speaking at a press conference held at KPCC office here, Shivakumar said, "If 80% of adults are administered two doses of vaccine within three months, it is possible to save the state from third wave of Covid. Is the ruling BJP government is ready for it?

"This question is not impossible to be answered. Export of vaccines should be reduced and stress should be given to vaccinate people of our country. Though the their own government is in power at the centre, the state BJP government could not get vaccination in required quantities. What is the point of the ruling BJP government making huge propaganda about vaccination on one particular day and then remaining silent?" he questioned.

"Step-motherly attitude is being meted out towards people of North Karnataka with regard to vaccine distribution. There is vaccine shortage in the capital city also. The health minister is saying that he is going to Delhi as vaccines have not been supplied in required quantity. Let us see whether this government will wake up now and work with commitment.

"The second dose of vaccination should be administered within eight weeks to fight against Delta variant virus of Covid. The government should make suitable changes in its guidelines for the same," DKS urged.

"Leaders of Congress party have conducted vaccination camps and vaccinated one lac people free of cost. Though we requested to let us buy the vaccines directly from the producer, the government did not give permission for the same. The ruling state BJP government did not agree for the noble thought of Congress of using MLAs’ funds for this cause. If state BJP government does not need our help it is fine. Let the government vaccinate everyone within time and save people.

“KPCC has conducted Vaccinate Karnataka campaign for children to create awareness in society about getting vaccinated. More than 20,000 children have made videos and shared on social media to inspire adults to take vaccine. Android tabs are given as gifts to 22 children on behalf of the party, who made good videos. We are inspiring people to take vaccine. But shortage of vaccine is the main issue. Let those who are ruling the state wake up and work.”
