Udupi, Jul 3: At the request of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, the union railway ministry has named the Bengaluru-Karwar express train as 'Panchaganga Express'. The name has been chosen on the basis of the holy Panchaganga river flowing in Udupi district, which has been formed out of the confluence of five rivers which in itself is a natural miracle. This superfast train runs between Karwar and Bengaluru via Padil bypass.
On this issue, a delegation had met the then minister of state for railways, Suresh Angadi, at the insistence of the people of the region. The minister had been urged to name the train as 'Panchaganga Express' because of the importance of the said river that flows through several sacred places and which also contributes to religious tourism, fishing, agriculture and supporting the normal lives of the people in many ways.
The people have expressed happiness at the naming of the train as per their wishes after a river that has been the lifeline of the district and thanked the central government, railway ministry, and MP Shobha Karandlaje.
