Bengaluru, Jul 2: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D K Shivakumar has lambasted the B S Yediyurappa regime for its failure to release even death certificates to those who died in the Chamarajanagar district hospital due to oxygen non-availability.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, he said he had information that as many as 65 people died due to non-availability of oxygen on a single day in Chamarajanagar district. But the State Government claimed only three persons.
“I have visited the homes of 36 persons who died in Chamarajanagar hospital. All these people have not been provided with death certificates,’’ he alleged.
Shivakumar said the State Government has promised to provide compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the deceased and the Supreme Court has provided time.
The KPCC Chief said he has information and records to prove that 3.30 lakh deaths have occurred in the State in the Covid pandemic.
He pointed out that the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh government has announced cash compensation and demanded Karnataka too should sanction compensation to all those who died due to Covid and a death audit must be conducted to get the real facts and figures.
All Congress party workers will visit the houses of the people who died due to Covid and collect details. The partymen will strive to get compensation to the dependents, he said.
Answering questions on the police complaint filed by Chief Minister’s son B Y Vijayendra on the alleged fraudulent activities of a Personal Assistant (PA), who claimed to be working for Social Welfare Minister B Sriramulau, the State Congress Chief said he does not wish to talk about PAs of ministers. Let us see what happens and what the government does, he said.
On the reported statement by Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa that Congress party ``is an organisation without father or mother,’’ Shivakumar said: "Let the Assembly elections take place. People will give the right answer.’’
Earlier, several party legislators called on Shivakumar at his residence and felicitated him on completing one year as KPCC President. The legislators included Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Ashok Pattan, Mahantesh Koujalgi, Kusuma Shivalli and Subba Reddy.
