Dharwad, Jul 2: A farmer here recently celebrated the birthday of his bullock in a grand manner. Taking pity at the animal that was on line for being slaughtered at a slaughterhouse, the farmer brought it home and has been taking great care of it.
He celebrated the birthday of the bullock on the day he brought it home from the clutches of the slaughterhouse. This is the story of Mailari, beloved bullock of farmer Nagappa Omagannavar, from Devarahubballi village in Dharwad taluk.
Nagappa was going through a lean patch two years back, and found it hard to look after his bullock. He then sold the bullock to a farmer from a neighbouring village and forgot about it. Two years later, he was passing by a slaughterhouse located in the cattle market of Dharwad when he heard the bellowing sound of a bullock that felt like it was calling him. It sounded familiar, and he went there and was shocked to find his bullock, Mailari, with tears in its eyes. Nagappa took pity, and wanted to get the bullock released. But the slaughterhouse sought Rs 52,000 and Nagappa agreed to pay.
When Nagappa sold the bullock, it had shed tears then. His heart had melted then too. After fixing the price of the bullock, the farmer was faced with the challenge of pooling the money to pay so much. He returned to his village, raised loans from some people, and saw that his earnest desire to get back that bullock was met. After coming back to its original home, the bullock started to serve him as it did in the past. Now, financially too Nagappa's family is getting stronger. Therefore, he celebrated the birthday of Mailari in a grand manner.
