Mumbai, Jul 2: According to an announcement made by BBMP on its official Twitter account, the residents of the city will get vaccination between 2 pm to 5 pm only on Friday July 2 at selected vaccination centres. The announcement also said that the Covishield vaccine will be given for only those who are above the age of 45. For those who want the second dose of vaccine only Covaxin will be administered.
All the vaccination centres run by the government were shut as there was no stock of Covid vaccines. A list of the centres where vaccines will be given is also put up on the official Twitter page.
BMC will get 25,000 doses of Covaxin and 1,25,000 doses of Covishield according to the information given by Suresh Kakani, the additional municipal commissioner. This stock will help to continue the vaccination of residents of the city.
Vaccination will be given only between 2 pm to 5 pm in selected centres and 200 doses each will be given to respective vaccination centers. This was conveyed by Dr Mangala Gomare, chief of the public health department of BMC.
Dr Bhupendra Pail, the medical officer said that they were expecting fresh stock of vaccines on Tuesday but now the department is asked to wait until Thursday. There are 16 government centers in the L ward covering Kurla which can give 300 vaccines each. However, on Wednesday the immunization was given only to 100 to 200 people due to a shortage of vaccine.
An official of the state government said that the central government had promised to supply 70 lac doses of vaccine for the month of June but the supply actually received was much less. The state is assured of one crore doses in July by the central government but needs to be seen whether the center really supplies the promised quantity. From June 21 to 23 more than one lac residents of the city were vaccinated. On June 28, a record number of 1.80 lac people were vaccinated in the city.
