Mangalore: Sahakara Bharati Wrests Power in Campco Again

Mangalore, Sep 6: Sahakara Bharati, a movement of cooperative activists, has continued with its impeccable record as far as having a firm grip over the management of The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative (Campco) Ltd is concerned. Both the candidates fielded by it for the posts of the directors in the company, Chanila Timmappa Shetty, and Sanjeev Matandoor, recorded outright victories over the Congress candidate, Kalanja Vishwanath Rai, with huge margins.

In the election held for two posts on Sunday, Sanjeev Matandoor and Chanila Timmappa Shetty secured 2243 and 2242 votes respectively, far more than 173 secured by Vishwnath Rai. Already 14 candidates of Sahakara Bharati have been elected unopposed to the board of the company. With the two remaining seats also going to it, all the 16 directors of the company are from Sahakara Bharati.

Veteran of the cooperative movement, Padmanabh Konkody, was chosen for another term, as the president of the cooperative. Kolari Satishchandra Bhandary from Kasargod has been chosen as the vice president. Konkody Padmanabh, a native of Idkidu village in Bantwal taluk, is the organizing secretary of Sahakara Bharati.
