Karwar, Sep 6: A boy was killed, when an explosion occurred in a house located at Sodigadde Banasale near Bhatkal on Sunday September 5. Reportedly, the family living in the house where the explosion occurred was involved with manufacturing explosives by using sulphur and other compounds.
The deceased has been identified as Kartik Ramesh Naik (10). His father, Ramesh Mastaiah Naik (35), who was seriously injured, was rushed to a hospital in Kundpur, and later to Manipal Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. One of the hands of Naik was severed, and his thigh suffered a deep gash in the incident. Several tiles of his house were blown away because of the impact, and a pit was formed at the spot of explosion.
It is said, explosives were being prepared at the backyard of Naik’s house, for scaring away wild boars which destroy crops at night.
Bhatkal deputy superintendent of police, Dr C B Vedamurty, circle inspector, Guru Mathur, sub-inspector, Timmappa Naik, and other police rushed to the spot. Investigations are on.
