Bengaluru, Jul 1: All the vice-chancellors of Universities in Karnataka have been asked to ensure vaccination of all students above 18 years by the deputy chief minister and State Covid Task Force chief Dr C V Ashwath Narayan, who also holds the higher education portfolio, on Thursday.
Holding a virtual meet with vice-chancellors, he said as per the schedule of the vaccine drive, these students are to be vaccinated by July 7, and added that VC’s should try to ensure vaccination of all students by the said date. The deadline could be extended by two or three days, if necessary, he said.
Students are being vaccinated as a priority group to facilitate the opening of physical classes of higher education classes, Dr Narayan said.
The date of opening of offline classes depends on the success of this vaccination drive and the state government is ready to extend all cooperation in this regard.
Dr Narayan also directed the VCs to work towards the implementation of national educational policy 2021.
Dr Narayan felicitates doctors on Doctors Day
The deputy chief minister, who himself is a medical doctor, visited the KC General Hospital early in the morning and felicitated all the doctors on duty by presenting flower bouquets and sweets and joined them in the celebration of Doctors Day.
Disregarding all formalities, Dr Narayan met and personally wished all the doctors as well as medical staff and patiently listened to their problems and grievances and happily posed for selfies with them. "I am proud to have been a doctor and participation in the Doctors Day function has made me very happy,’’ he said.
He complimented the medical fraternity on their dedicated and selfless work in treating people during the difficult times of the Covid pandemic.
The state government has allocated additional Rs 1,500 crore for the health sector for improving infrastructure, especially for the upgrading and improvement of primary and community health centres as well as taluk and district hospitals, he said.
Steps are being taken to ensure at least 25 ICU beds in each taluk hospital in the state, Dr Narayan said 100-bed hospitals are being set up in each assembly constituency and a super speciality hospital for every four assembly constituencies as part of the plans to improve health infrastructure in the state and provide quality medical treatment to all people at affordable costs.
