Mangaluru, Jul 1: A person from the city, who believed the information that he had won prize of Rs 12 lac, transferred Rs 7,85,800 to the accounts of miscreants in phases. After his wait for the prize amount turned futile, the man realised that he had been fleeced. A complaint has since been filed in the cyber crime police station here in this connection.
During December last year, the complainant received a registered post allegedly from Naaptol online shopping company. He opened the post that contained a scratch card and a letter. On verification, he found that he had been conveyed the information that he had won prize of Rs 12 lac.

When he contacted the telephone number given, he was told to fill bank account details and address in the form sent by post, and send the same by WhatsApp. Later, he received a call purportedly from a person named Pradeep Poojary. Poojary told him that in order to claim his prize amount, he would have to meet some fees. He was told that paying the fee is a pre-requisite for the disbursement of the prize.
The complainant thereafter, transferred a total amount of Rs 7,85,800 in phases as advised. As the prize still did not reach him, he realised this to be a case of fraud, and registered complainant at cyber crime police station here.
