Udupi, Sep 6: “The committees should be entrusted with responsibilities of security at the seashore and other water bodies during the immersion of the idol of Lord Ganesha in order to prevent any law and order disturbances”, said Kaup circle inspector (CI) S Cheluvaraj.
He was speaking at the peace meet organized at Padubidri police station on Sunday September 5 in view of the fact that this year Ganeshotsav and Eid-Ul-Fitr are coinciding.
“Guidelines are being issued to various committees entrusted with Ganeshotav in the limits of Padubidri police station, and these must be strictly followed”, added Cheluvaraj.
“The Ganeshotsav committee should register the names of its office-bearers at the local police station. They have to form a sub-committee to make arrangements to guard the idol of Lord Ganesha installed in
the ‘pandal’ at their respective locations. The fire extinguishers should be placed at the pandal in case of accidental fire”, he emphasized.
Cheluvaraj added, “The devotees marching in procession should restrain themselves from provocative slogans aimed at other communities. The loud speakers should be put off after 10.00 pm
and permission should be taken from the police station before donning any costumes. Western music and obscene music should not be played during the immersion of idols of Lord Ganesha and other
cultural programmes”.
The locals urged the police authorities warn known local goons to stay away from troubles to prevent communal clashes from flaring up.
