Dharwad: Deaf-mute couple ties knot, pledge to support each other

Daijiworld Media Network - Dharwad (SP)

Dharwad, Jun 29: Many believe that marriages are made in heaven and the individuals involved are decided in advance. In a rare incident which happened here, two people who are mute fell in love and became life partners.

This was the first marriage to have been held in Dharwad after the lockdown norms were eased. Kumar Talwar from Sattur village in Dharwad district, and Shweta Killedar from Saraswatpur, Dharwad, are the two, who exchanged the vows in a simple ceremony.

This marriage did not have the usual grandeur, show, or rush of people. As per tradition, customary Taali was tied and blessed rice was sprinkled on their hands. Both Kumar and Shweta are deaf-mute and many witnessed this unique marriage.

Kumar works for a factory while Shweta is good at embroidery. The couple received hearty blessings from their respective families, friends, and wellwishers. The two exchanged information and ideas through sign language before they agreed to marry each other.

@ Cynthia, "Flavs, they adjust and move on and successfully complete their vows.....But, we who can speak, talk, hear, see, dance and run, always fight with each other almost everyday and even on the same day of wedding and even before the wedding. Tell me now, who are great ?" Is that from your personal experience or just generalizing. ! I too had argument, verbal fights (if nothing pacified then ...sorry) my wife is no more and not fair to pass bad comments. Life is like that we also learn from our mistakes. Its not a open secret after all.

Flavian, i asked this question in general. We see around whats happening. So, i asked your opinion not based on your personal life. I asked who are best? God has given us everything..Look at those physically, mentally handicapped, talented people.....still they love, care for each other eventhough unable to speak....

I am reminded of the 1970s film “Koshish” in which Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bahduri played deaf and dumb roles. This marriage proved that fiction can be a reality. God bless the couple.

I have seen one Catholic couple like that in Mumbai. Both have completed high school in a special school and both are employed in railways. One thing I heard such people have many children, because by making signs, husband asks every night "are we going to sleep or what" Since wife cannot make out what he says immediately, by signs she asks "what".

Excellent.... What I noticed with these impaired people....they have extraordinarily talented in something else... There was a blind person in Belman when I was student...his name was Chondu..who used to walk by analyzing sounds around him...amazing...he could be still around in Belman... He used to wash my bike...trust me nobody could match him in that....not even Car washing machines in US... ...Tak...Takk...
