Kundapur, Sep 4: G Rama Devadiga (88), popularly known as Gangolli Ramanna, breathed his last at his home in Gangolli in the taluk on Friday September 4. Ramanna, a senior BJP leader, was involved with Sangh Parivar, Jan Sangh and BJP since his younger days.

Devadiga was involved with RSS, and started his political career through Jan Sangh, after which, he worked as a trusted soldier of BJP. Even during his advanced age, he was enthusiastically involved with party building activities. He was jailed during the emergency, and had taken part in Malappuram Movement, Akkigate Movement, etc. He had also taken part in the conferences of the party held in Delhi and Mumbai. He was fully involved with the ‘Save Ayodhya Ram Mandir’ movement, and was a widely respected tiger artiste.

He was a member of the Mandal panchayat, president of Gangolli Hindu Jagran Vedike, founder member of Gangolli Service Cooperative Bank, founder of Sarvajanika Sharadotsava, Raghavendra Aradhana Mahotasava Samiti and Gangolli Devadiga Sangha, besides being the president of Seetali Sri Navadurga Temple construction committee.

While home  minister, Dr V S Acharya, MP, B Y Raghavendra, MLAs, K Lakshminarayana and Halady Srinivas Shetty, who are away, expressed condolences at the death of Devadiga, various BJP leaders including A G Kodgi, local municipal president, K Mohandas Shetty and Kundapur Urban Development Authority chairman, Mani Gopal, paid last respects to Devadiga.
