Mangaluru, Jun 27: Rumours have been rife on social media that the structure of Hotel Srinivas was on the verge of collapse and police have prohibited vehicle movement on the road adjacent to the hotel.

However, the management of the hotel has brushed aside the rumours, and stated that the hotel is being renovated and there is no danger of any collapse.

Manager of the hotel Venkataramana told daijiworld, "It has come to our notice that rumours are spread on Whatsapp with regard to our hotel. The renovation work on the building started over a month ago, but now rain has caused inconvenience for the work. There were no labourers either due to the lockdown.

"As covering work is going on at window area, tarpaulin has been put below to avoid the pieces of cement falling on the ground and causing damage. A small piece of cement fell, and along with that a piece of the awning over the window also gave way. Otherwise, there is no issue with the structure.

"Some people, who have seen the building covered with tarpauline and cement dug at various parts, have made a wrong conclusion about building collapse," he said.

Speaking to daijiworld, ACP Nataraj said, "We have received information that a piece of cement above the window was on the verge of falling. Hence, to avoid any untoward incident, we have put up barricades on the road. We will visit the spot for further details.

It should have been mandatory on the part of the owners to get a structural audit done by a reputed firm & get the written approval of concerned authorities who in turn should have ensured that adequate precautions were taken before starting the process of such major repairs; wonder whether it was done???

External building structural photograph itself is self explanatory. Public has already vent their anger and are careful not to move close to this building, as it is in dangerous condition.

Looks like an eye sore even repair / maintenance done not with proper norms And possible immediate imploding The owners would have recovered their money from approx 1980 ‘s It used to be a fairly decent ..with ..posh AC restaurant novelty for its times But like in life .. time has come .. surely not a heritage building so presume not many will be sad ..

On the looks of it, the structure looks dilipated & rickety; the whole busy area should be cordoned off as it can collapse anytime during heavy rains to prevent loss of life & property! Sounds funny that the owner took the job of renovating the structure in the midst of the monsoon? Disturbing such an old structure during renovation itself is detrimental. Also, due to lockdown & economic recession most restaurants & lodges are closing down due to absolute lack of business & no cash flow & a very uncertain future! Hope the authorities take immediate action!

This hotel is situated in a busy place and pedestrian use this road as short cut to reach their destination for shopping or Central market. Most probably the life of this structure has peaked and should be given orders by DC to demolish for the sake of public safety, rather than regretting when it is too late.

Thank God there was nobody below. I passed through just minutes back and was in front of ICICI Bank when I heard a deafening noise. For a moment I got numb and thought Something was falling above my head. No doubt, there was negligence and risk to public in this case.

There are so many internal/external factors and natural calamities (like Covid 19 ) for the collapse of Indian economy. Modi's 2nd term is still pending and let us hope for positive growth in coming days. ( not to confuse about beard)

Watching the bad condition of the hotel (lodge) customers may not take risk to occupy this lodge. Should be very old structure (100 years old) and must be demolished and new building with modern amenities and comforts to be built. Nevertheless, Mangalore is coming up as smart City. Only making money is not enough.

The building looks dilapidated or in poor condition structurally. As long as the owners do not enroll guests until proper repairs are done and the building is re-certified for residence by the Competent Authorities - rumours should not be spread unnecessarily.

How come the MCC doesn't aquire land on both sides and widen the road, have good footpath outside the hotel. There is no proper footpath in front of the hotel. Pedestrians find it difficult to walk and we have a school in the vicinity, nobody cares for the same. MCC only intrested in acquiring land from residential properties to widen the roads and construct footpaths.
