Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 26: On the eve of International Day against Drug Abuse, seized drugs worth Rs 1.38 crore was destroyed by Mangaluru and Udupi police on Saturday June 26. Drugs worth approximately Rs 10 lac was destroyed in Mangaluru while the same worth Rs Rs 1,00,28,600 was disposed in Udupi.

Under Mangaluru police commissionerate and district police disposed drugs which included ganja, cocaine, MDMA, LSD and charas here at bio medical waste treatment unit at Kolnaad Mulky. As much as 130 kg of ganja, 68 grams MDMA, 41 strips LSD, 18 ml cocaine and 18 gram brown sugar was destroyed worth approximately Rs 10 lac which was seized in 50 cases under different police station limits.

In Dakshina Kannada district, under the guidance of superintendent of police (SP) Rishikesh Sonawane 221.9 kg of ganja worth Rs 25,11,080 was disposed which was seized in five cases under the district limit police stations.

Speaking to media, SP Rishikesh Sonawane said, “In the last four years, 89 cases under NDPS have been registered in which 153 accused have been arrested and 383 kg of ganja has been seized. It is being disposed today as per the proceedings of drug disposal committee and court orders.”

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, “The drugs have been disposed after court’s approval and proceedings in drugs disposal committee. In 2021, we have cracked 214 cases against drug peddlers and consumers. We appeal the public to share information with the nearest police station if they receive any information about drug-related crimes.”

Meanwhile, drugs worth Rs 1,00,28,600 that were confiscated in 50 different cases at various police stations of Udupi district were destroyed at Ayush Envirotech Private Limited, situated at Nandikur Industrial area of Padubidri under the limits of Padubidri police station.

The destroyed drugs included 103 kg of ganja worth Rs 30,13,100, 101 grams of Hydrovid ganja worth Rs 9,82,500, 1,362 MDMA sleep inducing tablets worth Rs 30,33,300 and 990 LSD strips worth Rs 30 lac.

The destruction of these drugs was carried out in the presence of N Vishnuvardhan, president of district drugs management committee and SP, additional SP Kumarachandra, members of the committee Sudhakar Sadanand Naik, DySP, Udupi sub division and S Vijayaprasad, DySP, Karkala sub division.

The cases in which these drugs were confiscated include 12 cases pertaining to Manipal police station, 10 cases of Udupi city police station, eight cases pertaining to CEN crime police station, six cases pertaining to Kundapur police station, five cases of Kaup police station, two case each of Malpe, Kundapur rural and Padubidri police station and one case each from Gangolli, Hiriyadka and Shirva police stations.

Among the cases the oldest one is reported from Kaup police station in 2008 and two cases reported in 2011 in other police stations. One case each is reported in 2012, 2013 and 2016, three cases were registered in 2018, seven cases in 2019, 27 cases in 2020 and seven cases in 2021. Out of the total 50 cases punishment is given in six case, while the accused was acquitted in one case. Accused in one case died. 20 cases are in the court under inquiry while the rest 22 cases are being investigated.

SP Vishnuvardhan appreciated the efforts of police officers who were present and said that more and more cases related to drugs should be detected and the district should be made drugs free.

    Che,everything destroyed?Sad.if they could sell in black ,Police could get some money for chai .or only half of the stock destroyed?Find it Super they destroyed.otherwise half of it would disappear before they bring out.Now in India consumers are become more than in western countries ,and young too.What a devil drug ,First of all these drug peddlers should be caught and punished.These peddlers should understand the importance and bad side of drug that make our young generation and whole land in destroys.once consumed ,will never comeout of it.

    Good work Udupi and Mangalore Police. But distroying just few Kg of Ganja will not stop people, specially youngsters from consuming it. The drug usage is increasing every day. May be police is catching only 2 percent of drugs. Like covid this pandamic also spread very fast. If police dept do sincere efforts then only you can control this.
