Udupi, Jun 25: In a press statement, MLA Raghupati Bhat said that revenue minister R Ashok has taken out a notification to take the government land that is allocated to Kalmat Mosque of Kodavoor back in the custody of the government.
Land measuring 0.67 cents on survey no 53/6 of Kodavoor village of the taluk was allotted to Kalmat Mosque, Palli Jidda, Kodavoor through Wakf Board. As there was resentment among locals with regards to this issue, MLA Raghupati Bhat met revenue minister R Ashok and appraised him of the matter that the land is allotted illegally and should be taken back by the government.
Accordingly, a notification that was taken out by the revenue minister dated June 22, 2021, as per the local situation report submitted by the DC, has directed to take the land back into the name of government.
Local residents were accusing that this land was allotted illegally in 2018 by the then Congress government through the Wakf Board. They were protesting to take the land back into government custody. An article to this effect appeared in Daijiworld as well.
Kodavoor Kalmat Mosque - BJP government itself took gazette notification for allotment: Hussain Kodibengre
District president of Association for Protection of Civil Rights, Hussain Kodibengre, which is fighting in favour of the Kalmat Mosque said that 0.67 cents of land under survey number 53/6 in Kodavoor village was allotted to Kalmat Mosque by the present BJP government itself in 2020.
Hussain also informed that this land is allotted through legal procedure after taking out gazette notification by the district administration and revenue department. All relevant documents pertaining to this process are available with the Wakf Board and the revenue department.
In a statement, Hussain said, “Inspite of following all the legal procedures, people who are not connected with the mosque have given illegal appeal. DC Jagadeesh also has displayed support to them. It is condemnable to grab the property that belongs to the Wakf board in the name of the government. We will question this in the court in coming days. We are confident that we will get justice in this matter.”
