Udupi, Jun 25: Because of coronavirus pandemic, physical classes are not yet being held. Online classes have continued. We often hear about the problems created for the students and teachers due to the connectivity and technology issues.
In one such incident, students from Udupi are compelled to scale a tree to be able to get the network and hear the classes.
The children from a village named Hamja near Madamakki in Hebri taluk, Udupi district, have readied a classroom over a tree to be able to hear the online classes. When the online classes are held in school, video and notes are uploaded. As the children do not get network connection at their homes, they reach a place located at a higher level and scale the tree to be able to hear the classes.
The said area has about 55 houses. Nearly 500 people reside there. About 40 to 50 children face the network problem. Even people employed elsewhere and have come back to work from home are confronting this issue. To obviate the problem, the parents of the children have built sheds over the trees in a couple of spots. Even though there has been demand for a tower in the areas, it has not yet been met so far.
A few days back, the picture of a girl student from Ballaka in Mogra, Sullia, had attracted a lot of attention. The photo showed the students scaling a hillock to attend online classes, and the parents shielding them from rain with an umbrella in hand.
