Mangaluru: Buses services will not begin from Jun 23, says DK Bus Owners' Association president

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Jun 22: The new guidelines issued by the district administration has permitted the movement of buses in the district on weekdays from 7 am to 1 pm from June 23.

However, the buses will not be allowed to operate when the weekend curfew is in place.

Reacting to the latest announcement by the government, the president of Dakshina Kannada District Bus Owners' Association, Dilraj Alva said, "We will not operate buses from June 23 till the month-end. If we do, we will have to pay tax for the whole month which is difficult."

"With the current diesel price and the 50% passenger capacity rule is not a favourable situation. Further, there are road works going around the entire city, forcing us to look for alternative routes. Before taking the buses to the roads, they need to be taken to a garage since they have been parked for the past two months. Repairs might be needed and all these works take time and therefore the buses will not operate this month," he added.

If administration allowed to increase the ticket price, then all buses will be on the roads. Government must compensate their loss also. Allow to increase the rate or give them fuel subsidy.

Again I think the state government here has done enough to lose the next elections. Covid care mismanagement, infighting at this time, turning a deaf ear to problems of people who matter , number of U turns, confusing diktats ..people in DK bearing the brunt...will be the reasons for downfall. Nowadays in M'lore 'No fixed route' Ottarasi. Karnataka is worst hit and will be in future too. No change in center because of one man PM Modiji and the absence of any credible alternative.

Good decusion by bus owners union. The point referred to by the union is genuine and they have already suffered due to pandemic situation.Govt is cunningly silent on tax matter.A sincere govt would have waived of tax for a small fraction of month to facilitate transport facility to public.Even now also it is not too late ,govt needs to be practical.

Golden chance for mangalore administration to reduce noise pollution & bring down deaths caused by reckless driving by Private bus drivers. A world class public transport can only happen with govt run program.

Good news. 90 %Mangaluru people own cars now. We don't require over speeding buses on roads. We will enjoy safe driving instead of these reckless bus drivers over taking from left side and jumping signal. Atleast innocent two wheel drivers will be safe. Natak of bus owners to swindle public will not work. Just wait after few days of Naataka all these vus owners will start their buses... Until then enjoy safe driving
